Julie – a new musical
A woman with a sword should never be ignored….
Inspired by the sensational true story of Julie d’Aubigny, Julie is a new musical about a young woman who fights to live life on her own terms.
Julie is a swashbuckling, gender-defying, celebrated opera singer and musketeer. Her insatiable hunger for dueling, life and love, combined with her hypnotic voice takes France by storm. On her adventures, Julie flourishes and beguiles in the extravagant courts of King Louis XIV; she is mistaken as a man, and thrown into a prison cell on Château d’If; then goes on to sing on the stage of the Paris Opera, becoming the celebrated diva known as “La Maupin.” Julie, the opera diva, causes men and women to swoon from the indescribable beauty of her voice and her charismatic stage presence! Julie’s incredible journey is littered with sword-fights, broken rules and crimes, as she discovers her inner strength, resilience and the meaning of true love.
This three hundred and fifty year old story of one woman’s battle for equality resonates and mirrors society today, as women worldwide continue to fight for life and liberty.
Julie will leave audiences astonished, musically enthralled and passionate about one woman’s rise to the top of Le Grand Siècle – a true inspiration for all today!
